BEESLEY XI Brief services for Joseph Smith Beesley, 90, "Utah piojieer, Black JIawk war veteran, and former resident of Provo, were held at the graveside at the Provo city cemetery ceme-tery this morning1. Mr. Beesley died Saturday at Rexburg, Idaho, and funeral services serv-ices were held in that city this afternoon. He was born Feb. 23, 1844 at White Water, Franklin county, Indiana. In the year 1862 he crossed the plains and made his home in Provo. and in the spring of 1864, he was called from the Second Sec-ond ward to drive, a church team hack to the Missouri river to meet . English converts. He was successful success-ful in bringing two families to Utah In 1868 he was again called to cross the plains, making three trips . in all. "He was married to Eliza Ann Andrews of Nephi, Nov. 23, 1874 at . the Endowment house in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Bessley died April 22, 1922. They were the parents Nof six sons and six daughters. In 1898, Mr. Beesley, with his family, ' moved to Driggs, Idaho, where they made their home for five years. At the time of the organisation organi-sation of the Teton stake, Mr. Beesley was chosen as one of the high councilmeiv. McMullin announce the marriage of their daughter, Lucille, to Ray B. West, Jr., son of Dean Ray B. West of the Utah Agricultural College and Mrs. West. The parents of the young couple were in Salt Lake for the ceremony Saturday afternoon. after-noon. The young bride graduated last year from the University of Utah, and is employed in the law library at the University. Mr. West will graduate this June with a master's degree from the university. v Mrs. S. M. Simpson entertained at a bridal shower Friday afternoon after-noon in honor of Mrs. Ruhlyn A. Simpson, a recent- bride. The guests numbered twenty-three, and included the ladies of - the Social Tea, The young bride received re-ceived many lovely gifts. Mrs. Laban Harding returned life he has been a faithful L. D. S. church worker. Surviving are: John A. Beesley, Joseph S. Beesley, Mrs. John J. Hunt, Mrs. Jack Lewis, Mrs. William Wil-liam Bales, Seymour A. Beesley all of Rexburg, Idaho and Mrs. J. P. Bowers, Arthur A. Beesley of Salt Lake City. ' Mr. and Mrs. Ammoh ; Nebeker came in from the Nebeker ranch in Daggett county last week for a brief visit and to attend a family fam-ily dinner in honor of the birthday birth-day anniversary of their mother, Mrs. Mary Nebeker. ' Miss Edith Elmer is home from Los Angeles, where she enjoyed a delightful vacation ' trip of several sev-eral weeks. She visited with Miss Bernice Bills and other friends. Joseph Reece of Los Angeles tsi visiting with relatives and friends in Payson. Scout Press Club Meets Wednesday Members of the Junior Press club will meet Wednesday afternoon after-noon at 4:30 at the Herald office. "We want the Press club members mem-bers to bring their articles for the week scout page with them instead of taking them to the usual place," says Harry Thomas, president of the organization. HEARING IS SET Preliminary hearing for Wayne Grant of Salem, charged with assault as-sault with attempt to commit rape, was set for May 15 in the city court. Grant was freed on a $500 bond. The orfense is said to have been committed n August Aug-ust 1, 1933. SERVICES FOR W. FRESHWATER Bishop Walter P. Whitehead presided at the funeral services for Walter Freshwater, well known Provo sportsman, which were held in the First ward chapel Sunday afternoon. Mr, Freshwater Fresh-water died early Friday morning morn-ing at his home. Mrs. Sarah Ramsey and Mrs. Emma Egilson sang "Sunset," and "Beyond the River," with Mrs. Vera Peterson as accompanist. accompan-ist. "Lay My Head Beneath a Rose," was rendered by Mrs. Ramsey, and Walter Robinson, accompanied by Miss Phyllis Robinson, furnished the vocal solos, "I'm a Pilgrim," and "O My Father." Remarks were made by Mayor A. O. Smoot, Bishop Joseph A. Buttle and Bishop Whitehead. David John offered the opening prayer, the benediction was pronounced pro-nounced by William H. Callahan and the grave at the, Provo city cemetery was .dedicated by -Joseph Bills . A large group of relatives and friends were in attendance at the funeral, and the flowers were beautiful.
