Whatever the reason the team's losing streak has ended in a big way, as Uintah followed up the win over Union with another 5-1. What was the difference in these two games? "We finally had two great pitching performances from Jeff Reynolds in the first game and Jake Bailey in the second game," said Labrum. "We can still play better defense and cut down on some defensive mistakes but we finally started hitting as a team." The team had 18 hits in the game, nearly every player found the piece of a Cougar pitch. Starting Start-ing with Dallas Smuin who hit a lead-off homerun in the first game. Gary Hacking, Austin McCauley and Pat Hacking had three RBIs and Kyle Hancock connected with the ball four times. Reynolds threw seven strikeouts in the game. "We got up early on Union and just kept the momentum going," explained Labrum. Hacking's clutch performance in the second game helped propel Uintah to the win. First he came up with two hits and two RBIs and then he took the mound with the bases loaded. He pitched a strikeout for the third out, stranding the three Cougar runners. "Bailey did an excellent job on the mound in the second game pitching 5 and two third innings," said Labrum. "Hekept Union off balance all day." The week didn't start off in such a bright way as Uintah lost to Moffat County 9-7 after eight innings. Uintah went down early 5-0 after the first, and always seemed about ready to catch the Colorado team before the inning was over. However, Moffat kept them at bay until the bottom of the seventh. Moffat was able to score two run in the top of the eighth and Uintah could not answer back, ending the game. Uintah will try to extend their current streak through the rest of their remaining five games. Three of those contests will be at home, starting with a game against Judge Memorial on April 25. intah dominates Carbon Invitationals By Casey Christbisct Express Writer Although it was the same weekend as the Junior Prom, Uintah's track team brought home nine medals and 10 other placings. Brini Beech led the pack with a first place medal in the 300 hurdles and a third in the 100-meter hurdles. BreAnne Shipton placed fifth in the 300 hurdles along with Kelsie Rust who took sixth. The two girls then competed in the 1 00-meter hurdles, Rust finished fourth and Shipton fifth.
