During the 2005 influenza season, the CDC received reports re-ports of 152 influenza-related deaths among children (under 18) from 40 states. The majority of these children were less than five years old, and all had the influenza in-fluenza infection diagnosed by laboratory tests. Twenty-seven percent of the children had a condition that placed them at high risk for serious complications complica-tions from influenza and were recommended for vaccination by the ACIP. Thirty-one percent had some dition. Forty percent of the children chil-dren were previously healthy. Of the 135 children who died that could have been vaccinated, vaccinat-ed, only five were "adequately" vaccinated against influenza.
