Show WX paddlers sink Farmers By DALE J. NEILSON . WOODS CROSS The Woods Cross boys' swim team is beating who h needs to, but the girls - well, their diminutive squad is ever-struggling for points. On Thursday, the visiting Wildcats mens team defeated the Granite Fanners by 117-61, to run its season record to 5-3 in Region 6. In contrast to their male counter- parts, the Lady Wildcats nightmarish season continued as they lost by 92-20 to Granite. The team is 0-8, which is understandable, understan-dable, considering there are only four girls on the team. In this sport. sheer strength of numbers alone can win. At Granite, the Wildcat boys Scott McDonald won both the 100 yard butterfly and the the 100 yard breaststroke, while Paul Sannar was first in the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyles. The 200 yard individual medley was won by Jeff Petersen. Jeff Midgley was victorious in the 100 yard backstroke. Chris Fisher placed second both the 200 yard and 500 yard freestyles. Scott Cowley was the runner-up in the diving competition and Ryan Murry placed second in the 100 yard butterfly. Woods Cross won both the 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle relays. as Chris Fisher and Paul Sannar doubled for both teams. Also on the 200 yard squad were Jason Smith and Brandon Keller, while Jeff Midgley and Ryan Murry filled in the remaining spots on the 400 yard team. Angie Phillips was the only Woods Cross girls winner in any event, as she won the 100 yard butterfly. but-terfly. Sheila Bredthauer placed second se-cond in the 100 yard freestyle. With the Region 6 meet not two weeks away, the "Cats coach seems to be growing in anticipation every day. "We're coming along well and improving,' said Robinson. "I expect ex-pect us to be in the top 10 at state." |
