Show Pettingill named year's PGA pro By TOM HARALDSEN The Utah Section of the PGA has named Valley View Golf Course's director of golf Ken Pettingill its Professional of the Year. Pettingill received his award during the section's sec-tion's annual fall meeting at the Homestead. He has been pro at the course in Layton since its inception, and was made director of golf at Valley View three years ago. Pettingill was the recipient of the Horton Smith Award from the Utah Section in 1986 (for training of apprentices) and was named Section Merchandiser Merchan-diser of the Year in 1989 for Utah's public courses. Pettingill works with Valley View professional Dave Kearl throughout the year at one of the state's most popular courses. He lives in Farmington along with his wife Mary, and they are the parents of five children. During the same meeting, West Bountiful Golf Course professional Mike Bicker received the Horton Smith Award for 1990. Bicker headed up a training program for apprentices this past summer that included a mandatory series of seminars sem-inars taught by the section's most knowledgeable professionals. In one other local golf note of interest, in-terest, Bicker finished second to champion Jim Blair in the Taylor MadeGus Paulos Match Play tournament tour-nament held at Jeremy Ranch as the season ended. Bicker defeated four opponents in match play before losing los-ing to Blair in the finals. The Clipper congratulates both men for their fine representation of golfers from Davis County. |
