The proposed change will affect 575 students who would normally go to Viewmont replacing them with 445 south Farmington students over three years. The students would be bused to Bountiful High School Board members are expected ex-pected to vote on the proposal Oct. 2. Some opponents have suggested that Farmington students now attending at-tending Davis High School should be bused to Bountiful High instead of the Viewmont students. According Accor-ding to Supt. Richard Kendell, this would not be a good plan, as it isolates the Farmington students from their community and buses them several miles beyond Viewmont View-mont to Bountiful. We asked Viewmont High School students to express their views on the proposed boundary changes. According to Heather Davie, "It is mostly the parents who are protesting. pro-testing. Heather said tht parents are concerned with the 'image" of Bountiful High. 'I think things will be okay. If you grow up with these kids and go to high school with them it won't be a problem. It won't affect me, but it will affect my brother, but not in a bad way. He adjusts very easily," said Heather. Maryn Green said "I wouldn't want to go there. My brother and sister came to Viewmont, and graduated from Viewmont I think if families live in the same place they have a right to go to the same school," she said. "I think it sucks," said Annalyn Koeger. She complained that Bountiful Boun-tiful High is too far away for West Bountiful students. 'Besides, Viewmont rules," she said. Brandee Vest said, T disapprove disap-prove of the new boundaries. I have two younger brothers and younger sister. They'll all go to Bountiful High and I won't be able to help them. We won't have the same teachers. I can't show them around the school This thing is tearing my family apart. I don't want to go to HEATHER DAVIE ' 'Parents are protesting. ' ' Bountiful, and my parents want all of us to go to the same school," explained ex-plained Brandee. "It's just stupid," said Tiffany Warren. "All of my neighbors wiil go to Bountiful while I stay at Viewmont. They won't know anyone at the new school," she said. Tonya Bruhn said, "This is tearing tear-ing families and neighborhoods apart. In my situation we have been BRANDEE VEST ' 'It' s tearing my family apart. ' ' shipped to a lot of schools already. Because I already ride the bus, they'll send me to Bountiful High. I'll go to one high school and my little sister will go to another. There must be a simpler way to resolve this than moving all of the boundaries. boun-daries. They should send all of the Farmington kids to Bountiful That way they will only affect two schools not every school," she said. |
