According to Jim Williams, a second generation genera-tion antique car lover, Bill was presented with an award at the Concours D' Elegance Antique Car Show at the University of Utah. "He got the award because he's worked on 50 percent of the antique cars in the state' said Jim. Through the years Bill has completely rebuilt several of the cars. The 1911 Case touring car has only original fenders. The remainder of the car has been tooled, refit and reassembled by Bill. He has improved the engine, and the car will now accelerate to 65 mph, compared to the original 45 mph. Eli's favorite is the Chalmers. It has been in the collection for 30 years. Bill prefers the antique anti-que racing cars. One of his favorites is the 1928 Dodge. Everything in the garage looks like it is ready for military inspection. Spit and polish is Bill's motto. In addition to the vehicles, Eli's collection collec-tion includes restored "Kidde-Kars" in all shapes and sizes, old gas pumps, glass gas pump tops, and a miniature train to add to the total nostalgic look. NORTH SALT LAKE-Whether from a ' kitten or an engine, award-winning mechanic Bill Young loves to hear purring. Bill is the wizard who restores all of the antiques anti-ques which are owned by Eli Williams, owner of Professional Medical Services, his source of income, and the Salt Flats Garage, his source of enjoyment for over 40 years. Bill and his "gang of five" watch over the collection of antiques housed in the garage in the North Salt Lake Industrial Park. His "gang" is not much help as they are all cats, most of which, according to Bill, have some personality disorder. Bill had to take time away from his mechanic work to design a cat carrier for his bicycle for Chester "because he's lazy. He got used to riding in my car, and now that I just ride my bike to work he won't walk. So I had to fix a place for him on the bike ' said Bill. The other cats. Sissy, so-named because she always hides; Garfield, who has the same coloration as the cartoon cat; Missy, who is looking for a home; and Adolph, the "one-eyed dictator," complete Bill's feline menagerie. As his purring cats have looked on, Bill has transformed, what to most would be a piece of I I r AAAyAAzA::;:: Ji-f : 2 I i000AAAAM'40AizAm A:AAAvA''A I 'M 'U'; t."''L: "vV;- W m Youn9- the wizard mechanic at the Salt Flats Garage in wA;A ys&AAAAA A L AAA 'Ay A North Salt Lake enjoys a ride on his mountain bike with his cat 1 KAyA'yzAA fy, AA, AA. . -AA; :fy :M Chester.
