Show Recognition deserved Dear Editor; I am writing in regards to Ted Powell's editorial last week concerning con-cerning the Brunsdales in the Handcart Hand-cart Days Parade. Mr. Powell made an unfair and inaccurate attack on the Brunsdales. Some things need to be clarified. As a councilwoman for the city of Bountiful, I applaud Celestia Brunsdale for the contribution she has made to our community and our state with her recycling program. She has given unselfishly of her service to cleaning up garbage in our city for over a year. She is not just a "supporter" of recycling, but is the organizer of Bountiful' s recycling program. She was recognized by Renew America with a national award for the service she has rendered and the great success of her program in Bountiful. Her program has been a model for other cities throughout the state. She has also spent hundreds hun-dreds of hours lecturing by invita tion before universities, schools, clubs and church organizations. Celestia was invited to participate par-ticipate in the Handcart Days parade, and was deserving of what little bit of recognition that gave her. The parade committee was aware of Kenley and Tanner riding with her and gave permission for them to do so. Her husband and son were there to support her and show their pride in her accomplishments. She had every right to have her family by her side! Mr. Powell's scripture quote would lead one to believe he is a Christian; however, his treatment of the Brunsdales is certainly not Christian. I am certain that the good people of Bountiful will look beyond the political prejudices of some and see the sincere and honest contributions of service that the Brunsdales unselfishly give to our community.
