Show I I Person of the Year named by 'Educational Technology' By JAMS STUART BOUNTIFUL-Profcssor M. David Merrill from the Department of Instructional Technology at Utah State University has been selected by the editors of ' 'Educational Technology" Magazine as the Person Per-son of the Year in Educational Technology for 1989. According to Lawrence Lipsitz, editor and publisher of the magazine, maga-zine, die award will be announced in the April issue of the publication. Merrill is the second winner of this award and joins Professor Robert M. Cagne of Florida State University as Educational Technology Persons of the Year. In both instances, the awards were made in recognition of career-long distinction in and contributions to the field of educational technology. Merrill and his wife Dixie are the parents of Roger, Mondi, Misti, Mikelle and Marriner. Merrill was bom and reared in Farmington as the son of David M. and Leola D. Merrill. Merrill was cited as Outstanding Educator in 1973, received the LDS Church Education Commissioner's Fellowship for 1977, was honored by Fellow American Psychological Association and the Fellow Association for the Development of Computer-Based Instructional Systems, has been commended for chapters in AECTDED 1985 and 1988 books of the year and was selected by Educational Technology Magazine as Person of the year in Educational Technology for 1989. Other honors earned by Merrill include being listed among the most productive educational psychologists, psycholo-gists, among the most frequently cited authors in computer based instruction in-struction literature, and he is ranked number five among influential people peo-ple in the Field of Instructional Technology.
