Show Handicap bus hours changed Bv SCOTT SUMMERILL FARMINGTON - Davis County Handicap Transportation Services received a $10,850 increase of funding fun-ding from the Utah Transit Authority Au-thority this month, allowing an expansion ex-pansion of services that have recently re-cently been cut Coordinator of the Handicap Transportation Program Kay T. Or-ton Or-ton said the change has brought the total hours of service of the four routes on the system up to about 6.5 per day each. The total was recently cut from 10.5 to 5 hours per day because of funding problems. "We still can't meet everybody's schedule," she said. "But it allowed allow-ed us to take care of the rush hour passengers that have to get to and from work." , On on said the increase in funds let the service put a midday run back on line as well. "There are people who only work half a day," she said. According to Orton, the service ran into a $20,000 deficit last year, which was part of the reason funds were cut back. But she is hopeful that the service will now be able to become a self-supporting service with the streamlined, more efficient scheduling. The cost to handicapped patrons will remain at 75 cents per one-way trip, according to Orton. Currently, the transportation service ser-vice has 169 approved patrons, 55 of whom are daily riders. Others ride more sporadically for transportation transpor-tation to medical facilities for dialysis, therapy or other medical services. |
