Show So w removal crew mdies for storms Acrewof20men and 17 pieces of equipment will keep the University's siting lots and roads free of snow this winter. The Department of 'importation, under the direction of John McClimek, is responsible for earing all campus roads and parking lots from snow. i. McClimek prepares for his battle with the snow early in the fall by siting snowplows and saltspreaders repaired and ready to be put on the nicks. The two-ton trucks are serviced and fitted with heavy steel braces w the snowplows to be put on to. When the first snow does fall, Mr. McClimek and his men are ready the trucks and a battle plan. The battle plan is a color coded campus-P- When the first workers arrive they check the map and see what Wment they are to use and which parking lots and roads they are to ;'ow, Theworkersareon call whenever a heavy snow is expected. When an wpecfed snow storm hits, campus security will notify someone in the department of Transportation and they will call in their workers. Mr. 'leClimek says if the plows start by 4 a.m. they can clear all the roads and ig lots by the time students start arriving on campus. Mr. McClimek added that there are improvements this year in ways to -swith the snow. "We're going to use less salt on the parking lots to we can save some of the shrubs and trees. We also got a front for the dorm parking lots so we don't pile snow behind the cars "twedid with the plows" |
