Show issues debated House-keeping done The Associated Students of the University of Utah (ASUU) Assembly began its fall quarter work by approving the ASUU ly-laws and doing house-keeping work, then adjourned before liscussing block seating, women's athletics and a compensation )ill. The assembly voted 20-18 to adjourn before discussing the i ! natters. A minor hassle developed on the By-laws when Wendy Love J'Ciab jected to Athletic Board being under Programs Board, instead jf Under Campus Affairs Board as it was previously. She felt that ithletics was not "entertainment" as such and that the students vould be better served if it stayed with Campus Affairs Board. teve Rich, chairman of Programs Board, replied that athletics vas entertainment. The assembly agreed. I Athletic Board came up again when the committee codifica-ion codifica-ion came up for assembly approval. Miss Love moved to amend )y adding a student member to the Board! This member would )e from the extra-curricular committee of the assembly, the lommittee over Athletic Board. Miss Love is the chairman of the ixtra-curricular committee. She felt that communication with the issembly would be improved if this change was made. Students lave only four votes out of 15 on that Board. Harris Vincent, assistant dean of students, commented that 'ny change of a faculty-student committee, such as Athletic oard, must be approved by the administration, in this case, resident Alfred C. Emery. The assembly finally voted to keep ie student members at four, but to require that one come from ie extra-curricular committee. This now goes to President Emery. Finance Board's hassles with purchase orders will be reduced s a result of another bill passed by the assembly. ASUU will be I laying half of the salary of a secretary who will be available 5 work on purchase orders full-time. The Union administration ' ill pay the rest for her services as a cashier. This will give inance Board and the ASUU secretaries more time to do more nportant things. ".A bill sponsored by Barbara Johnson to abolish block seating-ras seating-ras not dealt with at the meeting.
