With the gradual return of freshman fresh-man Bill Fox, first-year coach Mike Kimball says his 'squad should "post a stronger challenge" to BYU then in its late-November late-November 149-143 loss to the Cougars. Fox, who is making a comeback after breaking a wrist, is the team's second-best all-around performer, topped only by junior Roger Haldeman. While visiting Virginia, his native state, in early November to accept the state's "Athlete of the Year" award, he injured the wrist and dislocated his elbow during a workout. "He was able to perform during that pre-season meet with BYU and finished second in floor exercise with a cast on," said Kimball of Fox. "Since then, the cast has been removed and he's been working in two more exercises. By mid-February he'll be at full strength and ready to add points to our all-around totals. Against BYU, Fox will compete in free exercise, parallel bars, and still rings. Twice this year, he has beaten Haldeman in free exercise, and Roger rated high last year in the Western Athletic Conference. The team is now winless in three tries, with losses coming at the hands of California, Washington, and BYU. Prospects for the future look promising, as the squad has only two seniors on the 12-man team. The seniors, Brian Taylor and Chuck Mortimore are complimented by five freshmen. |
