Show Ufah gymnasts score win no. 2 Witli the Utes having now warmed up, they will be tried by fire as the University of Washington Washing-ton gymnasts travel to Utah Jan. 22 for a dual meet. Washington is acclaimed to be one of the finest if not the finest team in the United States. With seven international inter-national champions, four from Japan, two from Norway and one from Canada, the Washington team will undoubtedly provide Utah's stiffest competition this season. University Gymnasts nipped their BYU opposition 156.40 to 155 last Friday evening as a capacity crowd of over 750 crowded into the East-Complex gym on the Utah campus. This victory is the second over the Y for the Utes in as many meetings this season. The Larry Anderson-coached team fell behind in the meet with two events to go. Former Olympian Sergio Luna turned in one of his better performances on the parallel bars to offset the Cougar lead giving the Utes the advantage by two points. Sophomore Sopho-more Roger Haldeman added the icing as he recorded a near perfect performance on the horizontal bar stunning the judges into awarding him the near perfect score of 9-1. K.en Wright won the vaulting with 9.45 in his first complete 'performance since he broke his ankle. Rounding out the one-two Utah combination in the vaulting, Bob Montgomery tallied 9.35 points. |
