Show Professor Ray Doran dies; funeral set Saturday The family suggests contributions contribu-tions to the Ray L. Doran Memorial Memo-rial Fund in care of the First Methodist Church. Dr. Ray L. Doran, 54, a University Uni-versity physics professor for the past 23 years and widely-known on campus as an instructor in elementary physics, died Tuesday of an accidental gunshot wound. Dr. Doran was found dead in his garage about 11:40 p.m. He had apparently been cleaning his rifle when it accidentaUy discharged dis-charged and a bullet entered his left side. Dr. Doran had instructed Physics Phys-ics 105 (formerly Physics 5) exclusively ex-clusively for the past five years. In 1968, he was awarded the "Outstanding "Out-standing Teacher Award" from the Department of Physics. Previously, he taught upper division di-vision courses for physics majors. He was also active in campus research projects and published several scholarly papers. He came to the University in 1946 as an assistant professor of physics. He was promoted to associate professor in 1947, and received the rank of full professor profes-sor in 1958. He worked in the Upper Air Research Project from 1952-54 and was on the staff of the Academic Aca-demic Year Institute from 1957-58. 1957-58. At the time of his death, he was assistant Physics Department chairman and a member of the University's Radiation Biology Institute. He received his bachelor's degree de-gree in 1936 from the University of Utah and his doctorate in nuclear nu-clear physics from Purdue University Uni-versity in 1941. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Pi Sigma, Sigma Xi, and a past Utah chapter president presi-dent of Phi Beta Kappa. He was born Jan. 10, 1915. He married Elma Trebilock. She survives sur-vives along with four daughters Linda Ann, Sharon Lee, Bryan and Judith. Funeral services will be Saturday Satur-day at 11 a.m. at the First Methodist Meth-odist Church, 203 So. 2nd East.
