Married students Married students who have lived in the state less than a year do not qualify as residents, and subsequently must pay non-resident student fees, said an opinion issued Monday by state Attorney General Vernon Romney. The opinion was requested by Frank McKean, director of admissions at the University. Whether the couple has children or not does not alter their non-resident status, according to the opinion.
