Show Korean film to explore arranged marriages A Korean film, entitled "The Elderly Wife," which probes into the complexities of arranged marriages, will be shown to all interested students, faculty and staff Thursday. Because there are no 35mm projectors in use on campus, the film will be shown at the Richy Theater, 838 West North Temple, at 7 p.m. It is being sponsored by the Department of History, the Division of International Education and the Division of Continuing Education. Shot in full color, the film tells the story of a beautiful girl in her twenties who is an "elderly" wife only because her groom is just a boy of eight or nine. This is not an unusual situation in the Orient, according to Dr. Helmut G. Callis, professor of history and an expert on Oriental culture. The story describes some of the physical and emotional problems experienced by the young woman in trying to make her marriage work out. Tickets are on sale in advance at the Lectures and Concerts office, Annex 1164. They will also be sold at the door 25 cents for U students and staff with identification, or 50 cents general admission. |
