Show mnmmmimQDNmM f Student committee of un-American activities Editor: Along with so many people heaping a flower or two upon the local chapter of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), I also concur to the extent of giving them the benefit of the doubt. This does not go so far as giving them the benefit of a poor memory, however. They should remember that there are rules protecting other people's rights, and as soon as they violate those rules they are jeopardizing their recognition and right to use student facilities. Last Oct. 12, in the Tabernacle, there was a capacity audience gathered to hear for themselves and to make their own judgments concerning a presidential candidate (George Wallace). Kegrettably, there was also at least one person who came there with the definite idea that these people should not be allowed to peaceably assemble. In the next Chronicle, this person s views and behavior were lauded throughout Jeanette Brown's column. One wonders whether she andor other SDS members were also there, actively disrupting that meeting contrary to the constitutional "right to peaceably assemble." Perhaps there is need of this campus for a Student Committee of un-American Acitivities to help keep tabs on SDS. Then we could be more certain whether SDS does in actuality follow through with its promises to abide by the rules and respect others' rights. Steven Barrowes Students join symphony Editor: Just 20 years ago (lacking three days) Maurice Abravanel and the Utah Symphony joined forces with the Combined Choruses of the University of Utah for the first local performance of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis.
