The Utes split a pair of games, 7-8 and 2-0, with Weber State on Friday and then took both ends of Saturday's doubleheader from Utah State by identical 6-3 scores. The only games remaining on the Redskins' schedule are three WAC games with Wyoming next weekend. week-end. The once crucial series has been relegated to three routine, season-ending games as BYU took two of three games from Wyoming Saturday to clinch the WAC northern north-ern division title. Had Wyoming won two of three or had swept the series from BYU, Utah would have had a chance, depending on the outcome of next week's Utah- Wyoming Wyo-ming series. Now BYU, with a 8-4 record, can sit back and watch as Utah (4-5) and Wyoming (3-6) fight for second place. Clutch Hitting The Utes showed they were ready for the Cowboys in winning three of four games Friday and Saturday. Although Utah didn't pound out an excessive number of hits, the ones they did get came in clutch situations. situa-tions. For example, in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Utah State, the Redskins scored 12 runs on just nine hits. Utah got off to a bad start Friday when they lost the first game of the doubleheader to Weber State 8-7. The Wildcats capitalized on a questionable ques-tionable bases-loaded double and a two-run homer by Clair Wadman to nail down the victory. Dick Hardy was pounded hard and absorbed ab-sorbed his sixth loss against four victories. Theodore Stars George Theodore and Jim White-ley White-ley hit well for the Utes in the loss. Theodore tagged a triple and a bases-loaded double for four runs batted in. He also was robbed by great catches in his other two plate appearances and turned in a sparkling spark-ling defensive performance. White-ley White-ley went three for four and drove in a run. John Nordquist was the star of the second game as he held the Wildcats to just two hits, both singles, as he notched his fifth victory vic-tory against no losses. ' 4-0 Record Utah took advantage of some timely hitting Saturday to close out its season series with Utah State with a 4-0 record. Dan Prock limited lim-ited the Aggies to just four hits and John Hunter banged a triple and his fourth home run of the season to lead the Utes to the 6-3 victory. The Redskins won the nightcap by the same 6-3 score as John Lan-dures Lan-dures and Alan Axtell silenced the Aggie bats in the clutch. Utah jumped off to a quick 5-0 first-inning lead with the help of shoddy Utah State fielding and never relinquished re-linquished it. The Utes managed only four hits in the game but made them count.
