Show Renowned Composer Comes To University 'Since 1947 premieres of three of his larger works were given under direction of Dimitri Mitro-poulos, Mitro-poulos, Eugene Ormandy and Leonard Bernstein. UNIVERSITY music faculty regard re-gard him as one of the nation's most successful composers and a very accomplished teacher. 'He was Slee Professor of Music and Composer-in-Residence, University Uni-versity of Buffalo, from 1959 to 1961. Ned Rorem, a distinguished composer who has caught approving ap-proving nods in East Coast Music circles, is joining the University Uni-versity Music Department faculty fac-ulty as lecturer in music and composer-in-residence. THE UNIVERSITY Board of Regents unanimously approved Mr. Rorem's appointment during its most recent meeting. Dr. Jay E. Welch, department head, said the University was most fortunate in having a man of Mr. Rorem's stature on campus. cam-pus. MR. ROREM will begin his duties at the University Fall Quarter. He received both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Juil-liard Juil-liard 'School of Music, New York City. The master's was completed com-pleted in 1948. SINCE THAT time, Mr. Rorem has been an active and prolific composer, primarily of vocal and piano music. His compositions are of a more serious and artistic artis-tic nature. He received two fellowships for further study at Berkshire Music Center, Tanglewood, and then continued his work at Juil-liard. Juil-liard. HE STUDIED there with Bernard Ber-nard Wagenaar.
