Show Foreign Universities Open Doors For Summer Language Study Abroad MORE INFORMATION on the Experiment in International Liv-j ing may be obtained from the U.S. National Office, Putney Vermont, or the Regional Office at 219 Geary Street, San FranJ cisco, California. Additional information on the summer language study tour can be obtained from Dr. McKay. By GRACE FUNK Chronicle Staff Writer According to Dr. Llewelyn R. McKay, head of the Language Department, there are many opportunities op-portunities for travel and study abroad for students interested in learning a foreign language. SUMMER COLLEGE language courses are available in French, German, Italian or Spanish. Classes are given for all levels of learning from very elementary ele-mentary to advanced students who are interested in studying the civilization, art and culture of the host country. At the end of the two months tour a certificate of attendance and grades are given so that college credit may be received. DR. McKAY strongly urges students to take advantage of these trips between their junior and senior years so they can compete with natives and returned re-turned missionaries who take upper up-per division language classes. Four students are participating participat-ing in this travel plan during the ensuing summer months. ALSO AVAILABLE to people from 16 to 30 is the Experiment in International Living. This involves in-volves the student living with a private family in the host country. coun-try. Each experimenter spends a part of the summer as the 'son' or 'daughter" of the family. The other month is spent in traveling throughout the country or working work-ing on study projects. |
