Show First Born Have Edge On Wealth SANTA BARBARA, California (CPS) First born children have a decided edge in the pursuit pur-suit of eminence and fortune, and the youngest child has an advantage over the one in the middle, in the estimate of Dr. William Altus, professor of psychology psy-chology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. SEQUENCE OF birth also is linked to college attendance, according ac-cording to Dr. Altus' findings in studies on the local UC campus camp-us since 1960. "I noted that the proportion of first borns we had on campus was markedly out of line with what should be expected," he reports. "OF THE 1817 representatives of the two-child family, 1144 or 62.96 per cent were first born; and 673 or 37.04 per cent were second born." The trend holds in three and r child families. |
