Show Social Work Graduate School Offers Training Compensation The University's Graduate School of Social Work, one of the nation's most distinguished and progressive, offers 39 student stu-dent training stipends yearly which amount to a total of $184-000. $184-000. DR. REX A. Skidmore, dean of the school, rightfully speaks with pride when he talks of its research and study projects. The select 125 students enrolled en-rolled in the graduate programs are involved in a wide range of programs. THERE ARE FIVE different training grants. The National Institute of Mental Health offers eight grants of $1,800 the first year, $2,000 the second and tuition, tu-ition, for study of psychiatric social work. These are used for study in the Department of Psychiatry at the Salt Lake County Hospital Hospit-al and at the Mental Health Center in Salt Lake City. ALSO AVAILABLE are eight stipends in the same amounts for study in school social work. These are used in the Davis County School District by University Uni-versity students. For the study of juvenile delinquency, del-inquency, there are eight more grants of the same amounts. These are used in Ogden at the State Industrial School. EIGHT GRANTS, also for the same amounts, are made available avail-able by the Vocational Rehabilitation Rehabil-itation Administration, Washington, Washing-ton, DC, for students' use in Salt Lake County Hospital and at the University's Medical Center. Six stipends of $2,000 each plus tuition are available to students stu-dents wishing to study child welfare. These come from the U.S. Children's Bureau in Washington, Wash-ington, D.C. AT THE SAME time, there are many research projects being be-ing undertaken in the School. These range from the study of rehabilitation counselor-client relationships re-lationships to a study of personality person-ality strengths and potential. Dr. Skidmore said the school is looking forward to a very busy spring. April 30 is the date for Social Work Day on the University campus. Trie annual Arthur L. Beeley Lecture will be held the same day. MAY 3-5, THE graduate school will host the Western Interstate In-terstate Commission for Higher Education's regional institute for social service education. This event is expected to draw about 130 educators from 13 western states and Alaska and Hawaii. |
