If the previm.. u T United Nations are to be guided for thi v j' program, then I feel that it will fau faryek of achieving that objective. ort WHEN THE NAME and prestige of , state university is lent to any controve J undertaking, the people who support that versitv through their tavpe w, . . : Un'- Mr. Beard expect that both sides of the controversy w n be given equal platforms in presenting their viewpoint When n side of a controversy is given the full backing of the unive while the other side is relegated to the role of a barker hawk in his wares at the door, that university has failed to meet its r ponsibility to the citizens. This has been the situation in the nft with regard to the Model United Nations. Such a condtion i not becomng a great university. History will show that whenever one side of a controversy has been suppressed, error prevails much more often than truth We need not fear the ultimate triumph of right providing the people are able to make intelligent decisions based on all the facts. THE SO CALLED radical right wing has proposed many questions concerning the ultimate objectives of the United Nations. Nat-ions. They are important questions dealing with the continued existence of a free and sovereign United States. The American people deserve to know the answers. The real answers. The real answer and real solution is likely to be obtained only through free and open debate. It would be a positive step in the direction of truth and freedom if these questions were to be aired before the General Assembly of the Model United Nations. A selected group of these questions is listed below without comment. com-ment. Is unilateral disarmament with the ultimate surrender to the United Nations of our arms and armed forces a stated policy objective of our State Department? ARE THE DEFENSE cutbacks and the no new starts policy pol-icy of the Department of Defense a step in the direction of implementing this unilateral disarmament policy? Is the fact that the Soviet Union is allowed to violate the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty with impunity also a step in this direction? ARE THERE MANY officials in high positions in our ' government who are actively working to repeal the Connoly Reservation the only bar remaining (after our armed forces are gone) to prevent the complete usurpation of United States sovereignty by the United Nations? After United States' sovereignty has been lost through the two aforementioned programs, will we then have the world peace which supporters of the United Nations promise us or will the American citizens rebel when the communist and newly emerging nations use the United Nations as the vehicle to robe Ameirca of her wealth and impose a merciless dictatorship dictator-ship upon a once free people? |
