Show Former U. Educator, Levi E. Young. Dies Levi Edgar Young, 89, Professor Emeritus of History and a mem. ber of the University faculty from 1889 to 1939, died on December 13, in a Salt Lake City hospital. HE WAS APPOINTED head of the University Department of History His-tory and Political Science when it was organized in 1937. He was named "professor emeritus of history" in 1955 by the University Board of Regents. He served on the First Council of Seventy as a general authority for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 57 years. He was president of the council for 27 years. In February, 1959, he gained honorary membership to Phi Alpha Theta, national honorary society in history. He was also president of the Utah State Historical Society, president pres-ident of the Utah Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, member of the Author's Club in London, and official representative representa-tive of the Utah Association of the United Nations at the 1948 meetings meet-ings of the American Association for the United Nations. |
