Concerning Mr. Coon's letter (Chronicle, Nov. 6), I think he should be reminded that the CIC bulletin presented nothing but the facts which were completely com-pletely footnoted by House-Un-American Activities Committee publications and reports and by a book by J. ClarK rung IS Richard Littlefield say tha Mr Benson's view, that pro Communist elements are manipulating manipu-lating the racial problem to the? own ends, is "completely without evidence or defense MR. KING and Mr. Littlefield are wrong, and they apparently Save not been doing their homework home-work as well as college students possibly should. There are numerous numer-ous items on the market to back up Mr. Benson in this matter. I'll mention only four. 1 Manning Johnson was ja member of the Communist Party for ten years, as he admits in the opening sentence of his book, "Ten years I labored in the cause of Communism. I was a dedicated comrade. All my talents and efforts ef-forts were zealously used to bring about the triumph of Communism in America and throughout the World." He was also a Negro. After Af-ter breaking with the Party he wrote a book which is called "Color, Communism, and Conji-mon Conji-mon Sense." In short it tells 'a rather startling story about the role of the Communist Party in racial agitation. 2. JOSEPH POGANY, alias John Pepper (among others) wrote an essay in 1928 entitled, "American "Amer-ican Negro Problems." It outlined the Communist program of racial strife for the U. S. It was published pub-lished by the Worker's Library Publishers, which was the publishing pub-lishing agency of "The Worker's Party of America.'' This pamphlet has been reproduced by photo-offset, photo-offset, and is available to anyone who cares to get a copy. 3. Elizabeth Gurley Flynn was a member of the Communist Party and also has been imprisoned under un-der the Smith Act. The editor's note to her pamphlet, "Horizons of the Future for a Socialist Aim erica" reads, "In the thirties, she joined the Communist Commu-nist Party, subsequently becoming becom-ing one of its leading figures and a member of its national committee. commit-tee. As a Communist, she has continued con-tinued the fight, touring the country coun-try innumerable times as a spokesman for peace, democracy, and socialism." The pamphlet describes what the Communists have done and are presently doing in the Neexo ranks. It was published pub-lished in December. 1959, by the Communist Party. USA. 4. On JULY 29, 1963, Congress man E. C. Gathines entered into the "Congressional Record" aboul; thirty pages of information from the files of the House Committee on Un-American Activities. This information dealt with some fifty leaders of the NAACP, including Roy Wilkins. A. Philip Randolph, Robert C. Weaver, Ralph Bunche, Thurgood Marshall, etc. It makes very interesting reading. Item "1." above is available for a dollar. Item "2." is available avail-able for a dime. And item "3." is - available from the Communist Party headquarters in New York. Item "4." is available from any member of the Utah delegation to Congress. Those : four items are one-sided, in that; they all back up Mr. Benson's position, but this is not the important consideration here. The main thing is that they adequately accomplish the obvious, ob-vious, which is to make Mssrs.
