Various civic, fraternal and social organizations are invited to mail contributions to "Cancer, "Can-cer, Milford, Utah," and these will be credited to the local fund. "The Cancer fund works in much the same way as the March of Dimes funds," Mrs. Cl'ne said "The care and treatment treat-ment of a cancer patient is a terrible burden for the average family, but funds are available, v h e n needed, through the American Cancer Society, to assist as-sist families with a cancer patient. pa-tient. Applications for this assistance as-sistance may be made through local organizations or the state Cancer Society." Alsoiplanned for the near future fu-ture is a "lending library" of materials and, equipment necessary neces-sary for proper treatment of cancer patients. Dr. Eugene Davie, Milford physician, offered the following statement regarding the current campaign: "The American Cancer Society So-ciety is performing a great service serv-ice for the people of the United States, with organizations in all large communities and many smaller ones. "Cancer has become the leading lead-ing cause of death, and as people peo-ple learn how to live longer, it will gradually take a higher and higher toll of our population. The interesting fact about cancer, can-cer, and the most encouraging one, is that if diagnosed early cancer can almost always be cured. Early diagnosis then is the key to the cancer problem, and this requires education of the layman as well as the physician phy-sician in how to recognize early cancer. ''This is the program of the American Cancer Society, and it is very important that everyone every-one become aware of this great problem, because it is one which may personally affect any of us. "Therefore, I would urge all of the citizens of Milford to do their utmost to support this program with their time and funds." |
