Show SELLING THEIR BIRTHRIGHT ? ? Everyone knows the DibJe parable about the giiy who Kot so liuniy he sold his birthright for a howil of mush. We wonder if many American working- men aren't swapping their heritage of American freedom for little more than a bowl of soft-soap. A few" days ago we were chatting with a Milford citizen, citi-zen, who is a member of one of the railroad labor unions. Politics crept into the discussion, and we talked about one of the candidates for a high office. "Sure, I think he's the best man for the job," our friend said, "but 'they' tell us we have to vote for So-and-So, and naturally we go down the line for them." In our opinion, when voters "go down the line" for a group of labor bosses, when in their hearts they actually believe a different candidate is the best man for the job, those voters are no better off than if they were in Russia. The only difference is, in Russia there's only one name on the ballot. We believe in organized labor, but encroaching on the sanctity and privacy of the voting booth dictating who a voter must support is threatening the very foundations on """'"which our freedoms are built. |
