Show WHY THE SUDDEN PRICE JUMPS? Recently we had a representative of the United States Chamber of Commerce call on us. He recited the usual line of this and other similar organizations condemning powerful pow-erful labor groups, high taxes and wasteful government spending. This national commerce body is supported mainly by big manufacturers and wholesalers. . i Of course that organization makes great efforts to convince the average people to its way of thinking because (painful as it is) they have the most votes and votes are important in an election elec-tion of representatives who make the laws and spend the money. It just seems to us that a lot of missionary work needs to be done among the industrial giants who use the United States Chamber of Commerce to propagandize the little man. When the price of commodities commodi-ties increase more in six weeks than over the previous year, it is not hard to see why sentiment senti-ment for price controls is spreading over the country Nor can these profiteers blame the raises on new demands for higher wages, nor on scarcity. In fact, there is nothing that accounts for the gouges save unadeluterated greed, the intent in-tent to grab while the grabbing is good and before it becomes legally criminal, which it already al-ready morally is. The big manufacturers and jobbers are busy taking advantage advant-age of a fictitious scarcity accountable ac-countable to war nerves to advance ad-vance prices all along the line. Retailers in Price or-anywhere else can do little more than pass the increases on to the ultimate consumer. This same outfit abhors greed in labor leaders; it views with alarm the trend toward socialism. social-ism. Its official magazine is filled with stories dramatically pointing out the disastrous effects ef-fects of inflation and federal deficit spending. It should reexamine re-examine its own supporters !
