Show JUNIOR LEGION NINE J LOSES CHAMPIONSHIP TILT Milford's American Legion Junior Jun-ior baseball squad, playing in Cedar City Wednesday for the northern half district championship, champion-ship, lost a foot-race to the Cedar boys and came home with a 26 to 6 defeat on the record books. But there are "extenuating circumstances," as pointed out by Legion Athletic Officer Jimmy Hickman. Monday, Jiminez, starting pitcher, and Paul Rhoades, left Milford to spend the summer working for the U. P. Crane, another starting pitcher, had to work and couldn't make the trip. While warming up at Cedar, Mclntyre injured a knuckle and was unable to help, out with the pitching chores. Consequently Clyde Turner went the route with no relief. The Cedar boys banged in 16 runs in the first inning, and Jimmie started "cleaning off the bench" and about every youngster from Milford was given a chance to see action and gain experience in a regulation, championship game. Turner did a good job of ptching. He had wonderful control, and with air-tight fielding field-ing might even have won the ball game, but the Milford fielders field-ers were erratic in their ball-handUng ball-handUng and stacked up more errors than they did hits. Cedar City now plays St. George for the district championship cham-pionship and a berth in the state tournament, |
