Show Stephen Harder wins top honors in Utah State Junior Rifle Meet Stephen Haider, son of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Harder of Ma-plet.on, Ma-plet.on, took top honors in the Utah State Junior Gallery Rifle Championships Sat urday at Highland High School m Salt Lake City. Harder topped tho field of 74 competitors from the Salt Lake-Provo-Ogden area to win the title. In winning, Stephen accumulated accumu-lated a total of 28.ci points out of a possible 300. He is a senior at the high school and has been shooting for four years. Second was won by Chris Mustain of Salt Lake City with a 282. There were seven areas of competition in the shooting. Participants shot in a prone position, sitting, kneeling, standing, stan-ding, an aggregate of the first four scores, the team match and an aggregate of sitting and kneeling. Stephen took top honors in the sitting, with a 98 out of a possible 100; standing, with 44 out of 50; and the aggregate shooting. He tied with Mustain in the prone shooiing, with a perfect 100 of 100 score, but lost out in the breaker Other winners in the contest from the Springville-Mapleton Junior Rifle team included the following: Don Cain, who placed second in Class B, 2 position po-sition aggregate; Rick Newton, third in kneeling, Class B; Robert Rob-ert Woodward, second in kneeling kneel-ing and first in two position aggregate, Leslie Birch, second sitting (B Class) first standing stand-ing (B Class) and second in four position aggregate; Marl: Newton, first in C Class prone. The Springville B Team placed first witli the C Team also getting get-ting a first place. The girls team came in third spot. Reese Ivie came home with more of the hardware than anyone having won first in the sitting, first in the kneeling and standing and the two and four position aggregate. Springville competitors were congratula'ed by their instructors, instruc-tors, Garth Killpack and assistant, assis-tant, Dick Newton. Mr. Kill-pack Kill-pack reported that had the Springvilla team had an A team, they would have been able to defeat West, who won the team trophy. |
