Show Hebo Board approves IMC at Lincoln School function as an administrative administra-tive storehouse and operate as a cuiriculum Inftruction-al Inftruction-al media center. The MC, it was reported, is a quarter million dollar educational business. It will provide limited employment oppoi tunities, members pointed poin-ted out, and up the mailing volume in the '.ccal post office of-fice some 25 cartons per J-.y. It will increase educational educa-tional teaching aids to all teachers, principals and stu dents and add to the business bus-iness atmosphere in the city. Directly over the IMC will be Phillip Argyle of the district dis-trict administrative staff. Working in the IMC, which is presently located at Salem, Sal-em, are Jean Moore and Jean Hanks of Salem; May Box, Payson; Margaret Miller, Mil-ler, Carol Warren, Spring-ville; Spring-ville; Dennis Tucket, Spanish Span-ish Fork. The district works closely with the welfare agency in placing employees. The IMC and warehouse are being moved to the Lincoln Lin-coln School from Salem, to give the center more adequate ade-quate working and storage space for the growing school facility and provide more effective ef-fective service to school personnel per-sonnel here and throughout the d'strict. Comparitively new in the educational field, the Instructional Materials Center is dedicated to serving serv-ing the students, teachers and principals of all the schools in Nebo District. It is a center where all of the media used in a modern classroom is made available including books iboth library li-brary and textbooks), maps, globes, films, filmstrips, projector! pro-jector! of all kinds, tapes and tape recorders, large study pictures, transparencies, transparen-cies, kits containing realia, artifax and replicas and even a life-sized skeleton. Nebo School District was one of the first in the state to set up an Instructional Materials Cent sr. At the present time it is one of the most all-inclusive centers in the United States. Weekly, visitors come from over the country to see the Center in action. Mr. Argyle presently pres-ently assists other states' educators in Idaho, Colorado, and Nevada in their IMC setup. At the present time, the Center handles 40,000 items plus incoming new items. It is increasing in volume at the rate of 10,000 a year. An intra-district mailing service to each school daily helps lacilitate handling schools' needs. Included for the Lincoln School IMC will be a library supply where books and library li-brary materials may be used throughout the district. Part of this is Federal aid programmed pro-grammed material. There is also a textbook selection center donated by large textbook companies, which Nebo School Boai d announced announ-ced Monday night at a regular reg-ular board meeting that the board had approved the changing of the Instructional Instruction-al Materials Center and IMC warehouse from Salem to the Lincoln School in Springville. The action was taken two weeks ago and announced Monday night, according to president of the board, Ray Whiting and Springville board member, Glen W. Coffman. Part pf the administrative operation of Nebo School District will be shifted to Springville with the opening of the Instructional Materials Mater-ials Center and IMC warehouse ware-house in the Lincoln School building and former shop building east of the old high schcol. It is planned to have the IMC fit the Lincoln School ready for use for the summer session. Springville IMC units will provides teachers an opportunity oppor-tunity to make selections of books needed in the school curriculum. Understandably all sample books are not put chased, but copies are available to use on a limited basis. Presently the library contains con-tains 5000 copies that can be rotated on a 3-month basis ba-sis 3 00 books at a time. A printing department will be included where all curriculum and business office of-fice printing will be done. A production area is available avail-able where school personnel may make and assemble teacher instruction needs. Teachers use this in the siimmer to organize and build unit kits and develop curriculum guides to be used us-ed in the class room. A TV production center where programs may be produced pro-duced and televised is part of the Center. |
