Show BYU baseball club to play double headers at Provo this weekend Doubleheaders with Weber State and the Air Force Academy Acad-emy will be featured on BYU's baseball schedule this weekend as the Cougars move into the second half of the season. The Cougars opened league play over the weekend, posting a 2-1 record in a three-games series with Utah. Now they will switch their attention to a doubleheader with Weber. State Friday afternoon after-noon in Provo, plus a. double-header double-header with the Air Force the following afternoon on the home field. Games will get underway un-derway at 1 p.m. each day. Coach Glen Tuckett and the Cougars saw a nine-game win- rung streak snapped saiuraay in Salt Lake City when Utah halted BYU, 2-4, in the second game of a double-header. The Cougars won an easy 10-1 decision de-cision over the Redskins in the first game at Derks Field. A tight 9-8 win over Utah the day before in Provo pushed the Cougars out front in the Northern Division race in the Western Athletic Conference. Wyoming, the third team, has yet to play BYU or Utah. Prior to the loss to Utah, the Cougars had lost only one of their last 12 games. Ironically, Ironi-cally, that defeat was at the hands of Wyoming in a game played in Honolulu, Hawaii. BYU now has an 18-8 win-loss win-loss record for games played to date. Steady pitching has been a big factor in the Cougars' good record this season. Southpaw Jim Engelhardt leads the BYU mound staff with a 6-1 record for the season. He gave up only on-ly one run in the 10-1 win over ov-er Utah. Senior Bob Foderaro, who was credited with the defeat in the game with Utah, has a 4-3 record, but retains an impressive impres-sive ERA. Fred Caviglia, a junior, jun-ior, won the opener gaainst the Utes in relief. He now has a 3-0 record. |
