Calvin Packard, realizing re-alizing that muse plays an important im-portant role in the world today to-day and in the lives of individuals, individ-uals, joins in proclaiming the week and urging townspeople to observe the time set aside by increasing their musical knowledge and encouraging musicians. Local musicians to take part in week's events May 1 to 8 has been declared de-clared National Music Week by President Lyndon B. Johnson John-son and in specal observance of this date a Festival of Muse Mu-se and Art will be presented Thursday, May 5, at 7 p.m. in the Wilknson Center Ballroom at BYU, to which townspeople are invited. The festival is being sponsored spon-sored by the Utah Valley Opera Op-era Association and five federated feder-ated choruses of the county in cooperation with the Utah Federated Fed-erated Muse Club, according to Mrs. Victor J. Bird, opera association president and third vice .presdent of the UFMC. Ten leading Utah musicians and performers of dramatic art will be the recipients of special spec-ial honors during the program. They include Richard P. Con-die, Con-die, conductor Mormon Tabernacle Taber-nacle Choir; Maurice Abravan-el, Abravan-el, conductor, Utah Symphony; Crawford Gates, BYU faculty member who will become conductor con-ductor of the Beloit, Wis. Symphony; Sym-phony; Dr. Gen-it de Jong, Jr., former dean, BYU Fine Arts Department; Herald R. Clark, president, Community Concert Association; Dr. Franklin Mad-sen Mad-sen and Dr. Florence Jepperson Madsen, noted BYU musicians and teachers; Dr. T. Earl Par-doe, Par-doe, former head and member of Dramatic Art Dept., BYU; LeRoy J. Robertson, retired head of the Univerity of Utah music faculty and formerly of the BYU music staff.
