Show Springtime is wildlife's big activity time Springtime is at hand. It is a period of increased activity for all forms of life and especially es-pecially so for wildlife. For these creatures of the wild, it is a time for more moving about; for renewal of life through mating, nesting and giving birth to the wildlife wild-life of tomorrow. It is the season when game birds and animals are so often seen as they pause along, or hurry to cross, the highways. For the motorist it should be a time of extra caution, especially espec-ially when traveling through the rural or mountain areas. Pheasants and other small game are really vulnerable to speeding automobiles during these active days and thousands thou-sands are killed on the highways high-ways each spring. The same is true of deer and other big game as they move at night along the roads or ac-cross ac-cross them as they migrate to their summer ranges. This loss of wildlife is compounded com-pounded by the human injury and property losses which so often attend such accidents. Thus, the admonition where-ever where-ever you may drive during the warming months ahead; please slow down a bit give wildlife and yourself a break, the county's two-month total to $205,712, or 21.6 per cent of the 1965 goal. |
