Show Over eighteen million fish planted in 1964 Some 725 Utah waters were planted with 18,136,115 game fish during 1964, according to the Department of Fish and Game. Spokesmen said the plant for i 1965 would see approximately approxi-mately the same number of fish and a like amount of waters wa-ters stocked from the hatcheries hatcher-ies this year. Total weight of the fish planted was some 727,686 pounds. Majority of the fish stocked were rainbow trout, with other species being cutthroat, cut-throat, brook, brown, mackin-aw, mackin-aw, kokanee salmon and walleye. wall-eye. Of the total plant, 1,806,880 were rainbow trout seven inches in-ches or more in length. Fry and fingerling of all other species spe-cies made up the balance of 16,329,235 fish planted. Some waters are not planted every year and planting schedules sched-ules often have to be changed to meet drought or other conditions con-ditions which cannot be forecast. fore-cast. Spokesmen said the goal of this planned stocking program is to stock each water with the maximum number, size and kind of fish based upon the existing biological condition of the stream or lake and the fishing pressure exerted, within the limits of hatchery productions. |
