Show James Darwin Nelson His oldest brother, Art, helped his mother to transport her 11 children back to Cedar City in a covered wagon where she worked through the years to raise her family. Nelson is the last survivor sur-vivor of this family. He was an avid sports enthusiast all his life and was a member of the Cedar City Baseball team for many years. He was also one of the early members of the Cedar City Elks Lodge. Nelson married Irissa Dover on Aug. 27, 1923. the marrige was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple on Nov. 9, 19653. Mrs. Nelson died on Aug. 31, 1978. A son, J. Travis "Nelson, died in a plane crash on Jan. 12, 1970, while serving with the U.S. Air Force. Surviving are a son and two daughters.Blair D. Nelson, West Valley City, Shirley Kennicott, Salt Lake City, and Diana Smith, Cedar City. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren grand-children and 30 greatgrandchildren. great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Cedar City Ninth LDS Ward Chapel under the direction of Bishop Hal Campbell. Burial was in the Cedar City Cemetery. JAMES DARWIN NELSON, 83, died Nov. 4, 1982 in the Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City. Nelson was a life-long resident of Cedar City, with the exception of one yar .he spent in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was a self-employed barber until his retirement in 1979. For many years he worked in partnership with his brother, Millard, in a downtown location. In the years just prior to his retirement he established a barbershop in his residence. He began full-time barbering in 1921. He was born in Cedar City on Dec. 6, 1898, to Peter Albert and Agnes aine Urie Nelson. When he was six years old the family moved to Idaho Falls, where his father died the next year. |
