Show SU gymnasts 4th at Region Except for two gymnasts gym-nasts who will compete in the NAIA Nationals, the season is over for Southern Utah . State College's women's gymnastics team. Janet Jorgensen, a freshman from Richfield, and Janet Howell, a junior from West Jordan, will represent SUSC at the national meet Mar. 13-14 at Milledgeville, Ga. Jorgensen, particularly, par-ticularly, has shown significant improvement throughout the season. Howell has been a steady performer all year for the T-Birds. SUSC closed its year with a fourth place finish in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference meet last week at Pueblo, Colo. University of Southern Colorado captured the conference championship over defending champion Adams State, 124.10 to 123.95. Western State came in third with a score of 114.70, and SUSC totalled 109.45. "We've had an 'interesting' 'in-teresting' season," Coach Kathryn Berg says. "Some key injuries hurt us some, and we were up and down more than I'd have liked. Generally, we made good progress, and we are looking forward for-ward to next year." At Pueblo, nearly all the T-Bird gymnasts improved their scores in at least one event. The team score was nearly seven points better than the previous best. Jorgensen finished sixth in the all-around competition with a score of 29.50, best of the year for a T-Bird gymnast. She also had the meet's third best score in the vault and sixth best score on the balance beam. Freshman Mechele Hebberd, Riverton, had the best all-around score for the 'Birds with a 27.15 score. Following in order were Mary Damiani, senior from Chicago Heights, 111., 25.75, and Joanne Pflug, freshman from Magna, 23.80. |
