Show Don't wait I Editor: May I, not speaking for the Federation, personally comment on last week's Iron County Record editorial entitled "PSC Decision Stalled Too Long." On Jan. 26, power Federation mayors and other elected officials from Southern Utah traveled to Salt Lake and informed the governor, legislature, attorney general and Public Service Commission, that if the PSC ruled for UP&L, no franchises to operate in Southern Utah would be given and any attempt to transfer existing CPN franchises would be met with all legal and political means available. The PSC will not be making the decision on ownership of the electric system in the area. That decision has already been made by elected officials, signed resolutions and most important, the vote of the people for a Southern Utah-owned electric, system. It would be a slap in the face to every mayor, city council, town council and majority vote, if the state PSC and big 'brother UP&L. assumed they could ' determine "public interest" in com-K, com-K, munities, contrary to the decision of the jjj mayors, councils, and vote of the people in those communities. Too many have spilled their blood on the battlefield to protect this democratic principle of choice. Now that UP&L has agreed to let CPN negotiate with the cities (Southwest (South-west Power Agency), the PSC will . probably help mediate the negotiations. This will preclude them from having to make a "no win", decision. So if you're watching and waiting for the PSC to make a decision on the ownership of the electric system in Southern Utah, don't be too concerned; that decision has already been made, and it's not Utah Power and Light.
