Show Oil-gas loosing intorost still high Interest remains high in noncompetitive oil and gas leasing on federal lands in Utah and November sets a new record in applications received by the BLM. During that month 70,842 entry cards were received at the BLM Utah State Office. Of-fice. This was more than double the usual monthly average av-erage of 30,000 applications. Lands in terminated leases are made available for new lease offers on the third Monday of each month by BLM state offi ; in the mineral leasing states. Lands are also made available avail-able at the BLM Eastern states office. All applications received by the filing deadline are considered to have been submitted sub-mitted simultaneously. When there is more than one applicant appli-cant for a given tract, prior -ties to obtain the lease are established by a drawing. Hence the leasing system also is known as 'simultaneous 'simultan-eous oil and gas leasing.' The simultaneous leasing in recent years has become big business, not only for BLM (which processed 3.5 million applications at $10 each in fiscal 1978) but also for private filing services. |
