Show Mtn. Dell expects busy Christmas Christmas is a time of vacation for most Utahns, but for Mountain Bell operators oper-ators it is one of the busiest busi-est days of the year. Last year there were over 852,000 long distance calls made in Utah on Christmas Day and this year a 11 Increase is expected bringing bring-ing the total number of calls to OVPr a million. There Is a 35 percent discount rate on all long distance calls placed on Christmas and the large volume vol-ume of calls during certain times of the day often cause the lines to become jammed. The best times to call are before 8:00 a.m. and between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Our busiest hours on the Christmas holiday are between be-tween 9:00 a.m. and nnon, and after 7 p.m. The most calls we have handled in a day thus far was 1,135,000 on Nov. 26, 1979. According to Kearns there was no increase in the num -ber of long distance calls handled on Christmas 1978 compared to 1977. Due to the energy crunch this year, Kearns expects more long distance calls on the holiday holi-day because more people wjll be calling rather than visiting visit-ing relatives. Keep in mind that dialing long distance calls directly whenever possible saves both time and money. If it's necessary to call . Directory assistance you will save time if you obtain numbers before the holiday. |
