Show laws pafe By Mel Osborn The Beaver Cagers grabbed grab-bed two more victories last Friday and Saturday, rolling over 2 -A Hurricane, 67-59, and Valley, 56-46. Kelly Smith, Jess Cox, Rick Carter, Steve Roberts and Sheb Yardley jumped on the Hurricane Tigers for a quick 11 -2 lead, working the boards and the fast break to precision. After the first 8 minutes the Beavers led, 25-12, and poured more coals to the nets to heat up the scoreboard score-board for a 42-23 halftime lead. The third period found the Beavers missing shots and running into foul trouble. Big Greg Blackburn at 6'5" took advantage of the charity stripe sinking 7 free throws along with two goals for the Tigers. The Tigers snagged 22 points in the third period, while the Beavers struggled for nine points to leave the scoreboard, 51-45. In the fourth period. Rick Carter and Sieve Koberts combined efforts for the total to-tal 16 points for Beaver. The Tigers came within. one point at the 2 minute mark, but Roberts and Carter Car-ter came through under ipressure at the foul line to ice it for coach Todd Peterson. On Saturday night Beaver met a scrappy Valley crew at Orderville, but came up with a 56-46 edge, beating the home court of Southern Utah basketball. Carter, Smith, Yardley, Roberts, Cox, and Myers, remained consistent spreading spread-ing the scoring from 14 as the high, down to 7 for the low in a potent, balanced Beaver attack. The Beavers take on cross county rival Milford, tomorrow tomor-row night and travel to Ka-nab Ka-nab Saturday night. If Coach Peterson can pick up two victories on this weekend's slate, he will be on his way to a Region Championship. Milford's Jeff Atkin will be demonstrating his potential poten-tial all state techniques Friday Fri-day night and Chris and Gary Glover will be pushing the scoreboard Saturday night to try for the offensive edge against a powerful Beaver crew. |
