Show Children die of curiosity "Because children learn by touching, picking up and tasting, there is always danger that your child could be poisoned by something in your home. Any medication, household house-hold chemicals, cleaners and even house plants can cause damage that can be avoided if you teach your children the dangers of putting put-ting non food items in their mouth, and if youknowwhat steps to take if a poisoning poison-ing does occur. Chemicals and cleaners should be labeled and in their original containers so that if poisoning occurs you will have a list of the contents. If they are stored in pop bottles or jars it is easy for the children to mistake them for something pleasant. Medications should be kept in child proofed bottles and be labled. Did you know that some common house plants are toxie and can cause damage dam-age to stomach, heart, and kidney and other organs? Creeping Charlie, Crown" of Thorns, Jerusalem Cherry, Cher-ry, and several varieties of Ivy, including Glacier, Needle point and Boston. Avocado and Poinsettia may also be toxic. Some varieties of Chrysanthemum Chry-santhemum can cause a rash. Some varieties of philodendron are dangerous. danger-ous. They can cause pain, and swelling of mouth, lips and tongue. If poisoning does occur quickly remove poison from contact with eyes, ' skin or mouth. Never allow al-low the victim to rub his eyes. Wash eyes with water wa-ter or milk for 10 to 15 minutes with the eyelid held open. Wipe out mouth with a cloth and wash with water. Start artificial respiration respira-tion if the victim isn't breathing. Get emergency help at once. Dont induce vomiting unless un-less you have conferred with a doctor - as in some cases is may cause more damage. |
