Show V The old saying, it never rains but it pours was never truer. It is not unusual in the newspaper business to have a camera break down. That's why we have more than one, so there will always be a back up when something some-thing goes wrong. But who would believe that three cameras could go bad at the same time. Well, It happened at the Countv News. We thought we had repaired one camera and shot most of this week's pictures pic-tures with it. The shutter checked out, the lens was repaired, everything worked. work-ed. Who would have guessed guess-ed it had a light leak. But it did, and most of the pix were ruined. We'll try to reschedule those we can and we are those we can and we apolo -glze for the others. 0 - What happened to the service serv-ice In Service Stations? Every time there is an energy ener-gy crunch, it happens. Service Serv-ice Stations convert all their pumps to self service, and you provide your own service serv-ice or get none. Operators who do this have short memories and little eye for the future. They forget that customers have long memories and that the crunch won't last forever. 0 - Wise station operators may covert one island to self serve, but they maintain main-tain at least one island for full service. Even with the price differential, we're sure they do as much or more business at the full service pumps. But more important, they build a faithful following of good customers who will stay with them, even after the energy crunch Is over. - 0 -Ironically, many businesses busi-nesses in times of shortages become insensitive to customer cus-tomer service. Because they can sell all or nearly all the product they can get, they foolishly try to cut overhead by eliminating the services that first brought the customer cus-tomer to their door. True, when goods are short, many customers begin be-gin to shop price alone. They forget past services that have been delivered. Seem -ingly little things like delivery deli-very and installation of heavy appliances and furniture cost money. That special cut from the butcher, carrying your groceries to the car all add to the overhead. Generally prices are com -parable, so the extra service serv-ice means less profit to the merchant. He provides this service because he likes you and your business and wants to keep it. You can be sure you can trust this merchant to provide the best merchandise merchan-dise for your dollar. He will stand behind the merchandise merchan-dise through good times and bad. - 0 - And the rebates are back. They let the manufacturer reduce prices, while maintaining main-taining the retail price. Of course just reducing prices would be far more beneficial bene-ficial to theconsumer. There would be less sales tax, and smaller finance charges. - 0 - But that's the way of the recession inflationary times we are in. In these times it's difficult to keep a true perspective. As the dollar shrinks, Its often hard to look beyond the price. But if you can, it still pays to shop where you are as Important to the merchant as your greenbacks. - 0 -Nominating conventions are being scheduled throughout through-out the county between Sept. 27 and October 8.
