Show SchooLrv Home & j 1 . by ll Dr. Doryl J. McCarty Executive Secretary ZZ. Utah Education Assorintion : Some years ago, a Boy Scout was frustrated about a merit badge requirement that he'd tried for weeks to meet. The task: To dive to the bottom of a swimming pool, pick up a brick that had been dropped there, andbringthat brick out of the pool. The Scout worked for weeks, and even though he swam like a trout, he still couldn't do it. One day, a friend told him it was simple. "All you do is dive into the water, keep your eyes on the brick. . ." "Wait a minute." said the frustrated Scout. "You mean people can open their eyes underwater?" "Sure!" said the friend. "Try it." The Scout dropped a brick into the swimming pool, dived div-ed in, opened his eyes, picked pick-ed up the brick, and got it out of the pool on the first try. The moral of that little lit-tle story is that sometimes we take it for granted that people know more than they really do. The tragic thing about this is that it can cause a lot of lost years. Sometimes, the only thing we need to open our eyes is a piece of key information. |
