Show BIG JOB: Boyd Coates, manager of the Winch Wah Wah Ranch oversees the shearing operation, counting and sorting sheep. He said the sheep were in the best condition con-dition in years, with credit going to the wet winter and good forage. After shearing, the sheep will be split Into two herds and taken to lambing pens for lambing which should start this week. Coates said that the ranch only runs about 2700 sheep In two herds now, compared to 5,000 a few years ago. The drop Is due largely to a poor market, and coyote predation which due to environmental en-vironmental bans on 1080 and other control measures have allowed the coyotes to proliferate, and become a large factor, particularly during the lambing season. |
