Show DOE wants geothermal information As part of a continuing ef-fort ef-fort to encourage the widespread wide-spread use of geothermal energy in the United States, the US Department of Energy has awarded a geothermal component failure analysis contract to a Texas firm. There are many communities commu-nities and individuals in the country especially in the Western states who have made use of naturally occurring occur-ring hot water for years. However, because corrosion often takes place the life of pipes, pumps, radiators and other equipment is usually shortened. DOE would like to know of these problems so they can analyze the hot water and filed hardware to determine which water chemicals are causing the corrosion problems prob-lems and which materials will best resist the corrosion. cor-rosion. Any naturally occurring hot water (geothermal) user may be considered for this service at no cost to the user.
