Show HUMANE SOCIETY WILL MONITOR ADOPTED HORSES A cooperative agreement has been signed by the Humane Society of Utah and the Bureau of Land Management Manage-ment concerning the care of wild horses and burros placed under private custody by BLM. According to Paul L.Howard, L.How-ard, BLM Utah state director, the agreement provides pro-vides authorization and procedures pro-cedures for the society to monitor facilities and care of those animals placed in private custody under the adoptive horse program. He added that the society's assistance in monitoringthis portion of the program will greatly aid BLM in insuring that the animals are humanely treated. Donald E. Searies, Humane Society of Utah executive ex-ecutive director, said BLM will provide to the society a list of Utah residents who have adopted animals under the program. The bureau will then follow up on any reports by the society where violations of law may have occurred and .take such actions, as may be appropriate, appropri-ate, he added. He urged anyone aware of mistreatment of these animals ani-mals to contact his office in Salt Lake City at 968- 3548. During 1978, BLM placed 415 wild horses in "foster homes". |
