Show Wilson Will the old shopping basket return? Don't laugh, the days of the old wicker shopping basket bas-ket may not be far away. In fact, if paper shortages and strikes continue, we may find lots of substitutes from years gone by. - 0 While the average consumer con-sumer hasn't felt the pinch as yet, the day may not be far off. Most merchants are aware that the brown kraft bags they furnish at no extra cost to shoppers as a convenience con-venience for them to carry merchandise home -are in short supply. In fact their present stock is probably all they've got-with got-with little prospect of getting get-ting more, at least until the paper strikes are over. - 0 - Printers and paper suppliers sup-pliers are fully aware that colored bonds are in short supply, and supplies are confined con-fined to those on hand. Carbonless Car-bonless papers and carbon paper are out of stock. Not available at any price. The most commonly used sulfite bonds exist only with printers who had adequate supplies on hand. More than one customer has been told-"Sorry, told-"Sorry, we will have to substitute sub-stitute a more expensive paper" and if the situation continues to exist, soon even those expensive sheets will be in short supply. - 0 - Publishers faced with late deliveries of newsprint borrow bor-row from others, in hopes that they will receive shipments ship-ments before both run out.- So far, the crisis has not yet put anyone out of business, busi-ness, to our knowledge. But few are disillusioned that when the crisis is over, new supplies will carry a higher price tag. - 0 Few consumers realize the cost of paper bags, individually in-dividually boxed merchan dise so prevalent with almost everything you buy -all add to the cost of the merchandise. To the merchant, mer-chant, it is part of the overhead, over-head, just like heat, lights, rent and salaries. As the cost of packaging increases you may see a return to the wicker shopping shop-ping basket, the pickle barrel, bar-rel, and refillable containers. contain-ers. - 0 - There is one promise to the shortage of paper products. prod-ucts. The bureaucrats won't have paper to write new regulations. They will have to simplify the thousands of reports and forms required of business, monthly, quarterly and annually. This too, will benefit the consumer, because fewer personnel will be required to fill out all of these forms. Their wages must also be passed on to the consumer as overhead. There is a silver lining to every cloud. - 0 - The Tigers have been im -pressive to date. Good teamwork, team-work, good rebounding, good defense, good passing have been their forte. However, there is one facet of the game that we've ' seen little of. They've had little outside shooting. So far they've not needed it. Possibly they won't. But as the season progresses, they will face Beaver, Kanab, North Sevier and eventually Piute. All have size and rebounding re-bounding strength. When faced with a strong zone defense that shuts off the inside, the Tigers will need that outside shooting to open up the game. We know Coach Hillock boasts some fine outside shooters. We hope they will be ready and come through when he needs them. It certainly doesn't hurt to keep them in practice, even when it's not needed. |
