Show Icps cidte IMSogs, 1 82-at iisdeoii Superb rebounding and defensive de-fensive play by the Tigers in the first quarter Friday, kept them close 19-20 to the Bulldogs Bull-dogs at Gunnison, and a second quarter spurt gave them a halftime lead of 43-41. From that point on it was the Tiger's game, except for a final charge In the fourth quarter, when the Bulldogs cut the Tigers 19 point lead to eight. But Kim Williams sank two foul shots ( he hit 10 of 11 ) to boost the final score to 82-72. The Tigers were unusually un-usually cold in the first quarter, quar-ter, but superb offensive rebounding re-bounding by Ken Jones and Mark Whitney gave them three and four shots when they needed it, and kept them In the game. The Bulldogs as usual, hit well from outside, but had some problems when they tried to go Inside. The usually aggressive Bulldogs disappointed no one with their running -shooting style, but lost three players via the foul route in the final seconds, as they tore after the ball to catch up. The big difference was on the boards, where the Tigers were superior by a 43-27 margin. Jones grabbed 13, Whitney 11, and Jeff Atkin had nine. Jones also led the scoring with 30 points, Whitney 18, Williams had 16, with five rebounds and 13 assists, J. Atkin had 10 and Denny Myers, 8. Williams did a fabulous job bringing the ball down, against the aggressive Bulldogs, Bull-dogs, and his 13 assists are an indication of the job he did of finding the open man. Gunnison's Randy Warren hit nine of nine from the floor for a fantastic 100 percent. Most were from 15-20 feet out. Fred Moyle had 18 and Ronnie Hill, 13 to lead the Bulldogs. Bull-dogs. In other league action, North Sevier downed Paro-wan Paro-wan 67-41 on the Ram's home court. Troy Hallows had 24 and Todd Kennedy had 22fortheWolves.Thorn- REGION EIGHT STANDINGS DIVISION I Won Lost North Sevier g 0 Milford 1 0 Beaver 1 0 Kanab 1 0 Enterprise 0 1 Gunnison 0 2 Parowan 0 2 ton had 10 for the Rams. This week in Division I, Parowan will be at MIL-FORD; MIL-FORD; KANAB at Beaver, and Enterprise af NORTH SEVIER. Gunnison will have a bye. Our choice is in caps. We give an early season edge to the Cowboys, but the youthful, talented, Beavers have great depth and this could be an upset. By Round Robin time, if the Beavers come on, they won't be underdogs to anyone. any-one. Division II will start Region Re-gion play this Friday, with Bryce Valley at VALLEY, Panguitch at WAYNE, and Escalante at PIUTE. The Thunderblrds should take all in this division this year and may be the only team ready to compete with the top teams in Division I. |
